Christmas Day: The Gift is Here

Saturday 25th Dec 2021: Christmas Day: The Gift is Here

Lighting of Advent candles

All: Lord Jesus, Light of light, you have come among us.
Help us who live by your light to shine as lights in your world.
Glory to God in the highest.

Opening hymn: Joy to the world

  1. Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
    Let earth receive her King;
    Let every heart prepare Him room,
    And heav’n and nature sing,
    And heav’n and nature sing,
    And heav’n, and heav’n, and nature sing.
  2. Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!
    Let men their songs employ;
    While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
    Repeat the sounding joy,
    Repeat the sounding joy,
    Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
  3. No more let sins and sorrows grow,
    Nor thorns infest the ground;
    He comes to make His blessings flow
    Far as the curse is found,
    Far as the curse is found,
    Far as, far as, the curse is found.
  4. He rules the world with truth and grace,
    And makes the nations prove
    The glories of His righteousness,
    And wonders of His love,
    And wonders of His love,
    And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Prayer of preparation

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord.

Lord, we are sorry for the things we have done that have been selfish
All: Father, forgive us

We are sorry for things we have said that have hurt others
All: Father, forgive us

We are sorry for not always loving others as we should
All: Father, forgive us

Please fill us with your Holy Spirit and help us to be more like Jesus every day
All: Amen

May almighty God,
who sent his Son into the world to save sinners,

bring us his pardon and peace, now and for ever.
All: Amen

Lord Jesus Christ, your birth at Bethlehem draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth:
accept our heartfelt praise as we worship you, our Saviour and our eternal God.
All: Amen

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

The Peace

God will speak peace to his people,to those who turn to him in their hearts
The peace of the Lordbe always with you.
All: And also with you.

Song: Come and join the celebration

Come and join the celebration
It’s a very special day
Come and share our jubilation;
There’s a new King born today!
See, the shepherds
Hurry down to Bethlehem,
Gaze in wonder
At the Son of God who lay before them
Come and join the celebration
It’s a very special day
Come and share our jubilation;
There’s a new King born today!
Wise men journey,
Led to worship by a star
Kneel in homage
Bringing precious gifts from lands afar, so
Come and join the celebration
It’s a very special day
Come and share our jubilation;
There’s a new King born today!
“God is with us”
Round the world the message bring
He is with us
“Welcome”, all the bells on earth are pealing
Come and join the celebration
It’s a very special day
Come and share our jubilation;
There’s a new King born today!

Holy Communion

The Lord be with you
All: And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give thanks and praise.
It is indeed right,it is our duty and our joy,  at all times and in all places to give you thanks and praise, holy Father, heavenly King, almighty and eternal God,through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.
And now we give you thanks because in coming to dwell among us as man,he revealed the radiance of your glory and brought us out of darknessinto your own marvellous light.
All: To you be glory and praise for ever.
Therefore, with saints and angels and the whole company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name,for ever praising you and saying:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord,God of power and might,heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

All: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Accept our praises, heavenly Father,through your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ,and as we follow his example and obey his command, grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit these gifts of bread and winemay be to us his body and his blood; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks;who, in the same night that he was betrayed,took bread and gave you thanks;he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;do this in remembrance of me.
All: To you be glory and praise for ever.
he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;Drink this, all of you;this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
All: To you be glory and praise for ever.

Therefore, heavenly Father,we remember his offering of himself made once for all upon the cross;  we proclaim his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; we look for the coming of your kingdom, and with this bread and this cup we make the memorial of Christ your Son our Lord.
Great is the mystery of faith:
All: Christ has died:Christ is risen:Christ will come again.

Accept through him, our great high priest,this our sacrifice of thanks and praise,and as we eat and drink these holy giftsin the presence of your divine majesty,renew us by your Spirit, inspire us with your love and unite us in the body of your Son,Jesus Christ our Lord.
All: To you be glory and praise for ever.

Through him, and with him, and in him,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven,we worship you, Father almighty,in songs of everlasting praise:

All: Blessing and honour and glory and powerbe yours for ever and ever.

Lord’s prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen
We break the bread of life and that life is the light of the world
All: God here among us, light in the midst of us, bring us to light and life
God’s holy giftsfor God’s holy people.
All: Jesus Christ is holy,Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father.
Post-communion prayer
All: God our Father, whose Word has come among us in the Holy Child of Bethlehem:

may the light of faith illumine our hearts and shine in our words and deeds; through him who is Christ the Lord. Amen.

Final hymn: O come, all ye faithful

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him
Born the King of Angels:
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

God of God, light of light,
Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb;
True God, begotten, not created:
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of Heaven above!
Glory to God, glory in the highest:
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be glory given!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

May the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the perseverance of the wise men, the obedience of Joseph and Mary, and the peace of the Christ-child be yours this Christmas;
And the blessing of God almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.
All: Amen.
We go into the world
All: to share God’s love and grow as God’s people.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
All: In the name of Christ.

Isaiah 9:2-7

2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, thou hast increased their joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, thou hast broken as in the day of Midian.

5 For all the armor of the armed man in the tumult, and the garments rolled in blood, shall be for burning, for fuel of fire.

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

Luke 2:1-14

1 Now it came to pass in those days, there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be enrolled.

2 This was the first enrolment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

3 And all went to enrol themselves, every one to his own city.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;

5 to enrol himself with Mary, who was betrothed to him, being great with child.

6 And it came to pass, while they were there, the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.

9 And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people:

11 for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

12 And this is the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased.
