Words for the Service

Song: Great big God

Our God is a great big God

Our God is a great big God

Our God is a great big God

And he holds us in his hands (repeat)

He’s higher than a skyscraper

And he’s deeper than a submarine

He’s wider than the universe

And beyond my wildest dreams

And he’s known me and he’s loved me

Since before the world began

How wonderful to be a part of God’s amazing plan!

Our God is a great big God

Our God is a great big God

Our God is a great big God

And he holds us in his hands (repeat)

He’s higher than a skyscraper

And he’s deeper than a submarine

He’s wider than the universe

And beyond my wildest dreams

And he’s known me and he’s loved me

Since before the world began

How wonderful to be a part of God’s amazing plan!

Our God is a great big God

Our God is a great big God

Our God is a great big God

And he holds us in his hands (repeat)

And he holds us in his hands

And he holds us in his hands

And he holds us in his hands!

Prayer of preparation

Almighty God

To whom all hearts are open, all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden

Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

By the inspiration of your Holy Spirit

That we may perfectly love you

And worthily magnify your holy name

Through Christ our Lord

Amen

Confession

Lord, we are sorry for the things we have done that have been selfish

Father, forgive us

We are sorry for things we have said that have hurt others

All: Father, forgive us

We are sorry for not always loving others as we should

All: Father, forgive us

Please fill us with your Holy Spirit and help us to be more like Jesus every day

Amen

Absolution

May almighty God,

who sent his Son into the world to save sinners,

bring us his pardon and peace, now and for ever.

Amen.

Collect

Lord God,

your Son left the riches of heaven

and became poor for our sake:

when we prosper save us from pride,

when we are needy save us from despair,

that we may trust in you alone;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Lord’s prayer

Our Father in heaven

Hallowed be your name

Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as in heaven

Give us today our daily  bread
And forgive us our sins

As we forgive those who sin against us
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For the kingdom the power and the glory are yours
Now and forever

Amen

Peace

The peace of the Lord be with you

And also with you

Song: The Lord’s my Shepherd

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want

He makes me lie in pastures green

He leads me by the still, still waters

His goodness restores my soul

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

For your endless mercy follows me (endless mercy follows me)

Your goodness will lead me home

He guides my ways in righteousness

And he anoints my head with oil

And my cup, it overflows with joy

I feast on his pure delights

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

For your endless mercy follows me (endless mercy follows me)

Your goodness will lead me home

And though I walk the darkest path

I will not fear the evil one

For you are with me, and your rod and staff

Are the comfort I need to know

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

For your endless mercy follows me (endless mercy follows me)

Your goodness will lead me home

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

And I will trust in you alone (I will trust, I will trust in you)

For your endless mercy follows me (endless mercy follows me)

Your goodness will lead me home

For your endless mercy follows me

Your goodness will lead me home

Eucharistic prayer and communion

 The Lord is here.

His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation;

in your love you made us for yourself.

When we turned away

you did not reject us,

but came to meet us in your Son.

You embraced us as your children

and welcomed us to sit and eat with you.

In Christ you shared our life

that we might live in him and he in us.

He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made for all the perfect sacrifice for sin.

On the night he was betrayed, at supper with his friends

he took bread, and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

Father, we do this in remembrance of him:

his body is the bread of life.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins;

do this in remembrance of me.

Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his blood is shed for all.

As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory,

send your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine

may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son.

As we eat and drink these holy gifts make us one in Christ, our risen Lord.

With your whole Church throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice of praise

and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven:

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Lord’s prayer

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and forever. Amen

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

Though we are many we are one body as we all share in one bread.

God’s holy gifts

for God’s holy people.

All:   Jesus Christ is holy,

Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

Post Communion Prayer

Strengthen for service, Lord, the hands that have taken holy things; may the ears which have heard your word be deaf to clamour and dispute; may the tongues which have sung your praise be free from deceit; may the eyes which have seen the tokens of your love shine with the light of hope; and may the bodies which have been fed with your body be refreshed with the fullness of your life; glory to you for ever.

Song: 10,000 Reasons

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul

Worship his holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul

I’ll worship your holy name

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning

It’s time to sing your song again

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me

Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul

Worship his holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul

I’ll worship your holy name

You’re rich in love and you’re slow to anger

Your name is great and your heart is kind

For all your goodness I will keep on singing

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul

Worship his holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul

I’ll worship your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing

The end draws near and my time has come

Still my soul will sing your praise unending

Ten thousand years and then for evermore

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul

Worship his holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul

I’ll worship your holy name

So bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul

Worship his holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul

I’ll worship your holy name

I’ll worship your holy name

Yes, I’ll worship your holy name

Blessing

The almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us and keep us.
Amen.

We go into the world

To share God’s love and grow as God’s people

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord

In the name of Christ, Amen

Readings

Romans 9:1-16

1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in the Holy Spirit,

2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart.

3 For I could wish that I myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren’s sake, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

4 who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

5 whose are the fathers, and of whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

6 But it is not as though the word of God hath come to nought. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel:

7 neither, because they are Abraham’s seed, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.

9 For this is a word of promise, According to this season will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.

10 And not only so; but Rebecca also having conceived by one, even by our father Isaac—

11 for the children being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,

12 it was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13 Even as it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.

16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that hath mercy.
